Very Rainy day

Updated: Feb 20, 2021

February 19, 2021 We left the house before 6:00am making our 1+ hour drive up to Bear Island WMA mostly in the dark and rain. We arrived to the observation deck, to find a few Tricolored Heron taking flight and way off in the distance were 7 White Pelicans. We drove past Mary's Island Pond and located 4 Tundra Swan off to the right, there were ducks inflight as a Bald Eagle have just flown over the pond. Our focus today was ducks, especially Gadwall as they have been seen here days before. I was also practicing with my new spotting scope. As we drove past Mary's Island Pond we found 60+ Tundra Swan, and one lone Mute Swan. It was interesting to hear the Swan's vocalizing in the rain. We did also add Mottled Ducks to our list today.
